From My Heart to Your Heart,

January 2017

I know you join Dalys and me in thanking God for the blessings we enjoyed in 2016. It is our prayer that each of you and Southside Baptist Church will have a safe, blessed, healthy and prosperous 2017!

Someone once told me “If you’re not changing, you’re dying!” I don’t accept that as a blanket statement, but I do agree that there are times and circumstances when it does apply. Change, simply for the sake of change, is rarely a good thing, but sometimes change IS necessary if individuals and organizations are to improve and grow.

In an effort to make us more efficient and effective, I am constantly evaluating the way we do “business” at Southside Baptist Church. I am especially interested in ways that I can more effectively serve as your pastor. In light of that, I am making the following changes effective January 1, 2017.

I believe the prayer emphasis in any church should come from the church’s pastor and not be delegated to another person. For that reason, beginning Thursday, January 5th, I will be leading our mid-week Prayer Meeting. There will also be changes in the way Prayer Meeting is conducted. Brother Buddy Lear has done a fine job in this capacity the past several years and we thank him for his efforts. Brother Buddy’s job title will change to “Ministry Support Pastor” effective January 1st.

The other change that will be effective with the new year is that I have asked Brother Richard Bump to become our Associate Pastor, and he has agreed. I will share more information about this with you in the coming days.
