From My Heart to Your Heart,

February 2017

You may recognize the above words as a sentiment expressed in the “Prayer of Jabez” found in 1 Chronicles 4:10. As I have prayed for God’s direction for Southside Baptist Church in the year 2017, particularly with regards to our mission emphasis, I have been continually drawn to this verse, and I am excited when I consider its implications!

Some will read the “Prayer of Jabez” and see it only in terms of personal prosperity. I see it as much more. I have adopted these words on behalf of our church and I pray them back to God asking Him to “enlarge the borders” of our missionary influence in the year 2017.

For several years our main mission effort has been in support of Samaritan’s Purse and Operation Christmas Child. Thanks to our new coordinator Nancy Seiple, that effort will continue, and she has renewed our goal of 500 shoeboxes this year! But that will not be our only mission emphasis in 2017. I have been in discussions with Elizabeth Ratliff since her annual visit to Southside on January 1st, and God is “enlarging our borders” by leading us to support her ministry to Zambia in a more tangible way throughout this year. As our discussions continue, and as God more clearly defines the shape this support will take, I will share the news with you.

We constantly ask God to accomplish “great and mighty things” through our church – His answer is “YES!” Please continue to pray and ask God how He would have you actively support the ministries of our church!
