Devotional Passage:
Philippians 4:1-8

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”  Philippians 4:8

Do you have a favorite food?  I suppose two of mine might be pancakes and bacon cheeseburgers. When you go to the local restaurant and find any number of choices of pancakes and syrups – wow, what a breakfast!  A quick lunch that includes a bacon cheeseburger might well be a heart attack waiting to happen, but it’s still delicious!  There’s just something about bacon that makes it so tasty!

Paul probably had his favorite foods from time to time, too.  More importantly for Paul and all of us is our spiritual appetite and what we do to satisfy it. In Philippians 4:8 Paul gave us a complete guide to what we should think about and concentrate on every day as we walk and talk with Jesus.   After reading that verse, we have no excuse, much less any time to be overcome with worry, fear or dread and certainly no reason for being spiritually defeated.

One old hymn has put it this way:  “feasting on the riches of His grace.”  God has given us blessings, strength to live for Him each day, the Bible to show us what is “true… honorable… just… pure… lovely… gracious” and the very presence of Christ Himself in our hearts to help us perform Philippians 4:8.  We must feed our souls the truths of God’s Word.  He is worthy of our praise!

The next time you eat your favorite food, thank Him for all the good things He has poured out upon you.  Then spend your day thinking about what honors Him the most, living the truth of Philippians 4:8 and rejoicing in Him and praising Him!  Fill up your mind, soul and spirit with Jesus!

Lord, You have given me eternal life that begins here on earth with spiritual blessings that overflow.  You fill me abundantly.  You are worthy of all my praise!
