With the heat of summer comes Vacation Bible School and more young lives to bring to know Jesus through our ministry.
As the children in our area get out of school, it brings a new level of energy and excitement to the community. It also brings us more opportunities to witness to them and show them the love of God.
Your blessing, prayer and support this month will be used to help those who will be working with children – some of whom have never gone to church or heard of God. It is our job and our joy to be able to teach them about Him. Children are so honest, open and kind. They are receptive to our teachings, and we hope the ultimate commitment of choosing to follow Christ for the rest of their lives.
Jesus has a special place in His heart for children. When the disciples went to Him and said, “Who is greatest in the kingdom of Heaven?”
2 And He called a child to Himself and set him before them, 3 and said, “Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 And whoever receives one such child in My name receives Me; 6 but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.” (Matthew 18:2-6)
Listen to the importance Moses impressed upon the people in the Old Testament regarding the sharing and hearing of the Word of God;
Deuteronomy 31:9-13 9 So Moses wrote this law and gave it to the priests, the sons of Levi who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and to all the elders of Israel. 10 Then Moses commanded them, saying, “At the end of every seven years, at the time of the year of remission of debts, at the Feast of Booths, 11 when all Israel comes to appear before the Lord your God at the place which He will choose, you shall read this law in front of all Israel in their hearing. 12 Assemble the people, the men and the women and children and the alien who is in your town, so that they may hear and learn and fear the Lord your God, and be careful to observe all the words of this law.13 Their children, who have not known, will hear and learn to fear the Lord your God, as long as you live on the land which you are about to cross the Jordan to possess.”
There seems to be a double emphasis on sharing it with the children as we can see in verses 12 and 13. Children are the only ones mentioned twice in the context of this command!
We often hear about the importance of “investing for the long term”, and while that relates to the financial area, we believe we can apply it to spiritual things as well. When we invest in the lives of our children both financially and spiritually, we are making sure the Gospel message endures for another generation!
