“Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself.” These words from James 2:17 came alive in a mighty way last month as Southside hosted Vacation Bible School the week of 12-16 June. Fifty-one children registered for this year’s school and we had 40-45 children in attendance each of the five days. This year’s mission emphasis during VBS, as it has been each year since 2014, was “feeding the hungry” through Servant’s Heart Ministry, and the children who attended VBS brought a total of 270 pounds of non-perishable food items as their donation to the hungry. That translated to 225 meals that Servant’s Heart was able to distribute because of the generosity of those precious children! That’s faith that is truly alive, and not dead!
Now we need to direct our attention and efforts toward another opportunity to put our faith into action – Operation Christmas Child. Nancy Seiple has been collecting items for our shoeboxes since January, but now it’s time to get serious! Last year I challenged our church to send 500 shoeboxes, and we came pretty close. This is the year we’re going to reach our goal – I just know it! There is a list of the items that we are collecting for the shoeboxes inside this newsletter, and on the Operation Christmas Child table inside the sanctuary. Our Shoebox Packing Party will be in early November – who’s going to pack that 500th box?!
Please continue to pray for one another, and for the ministry of Southside Baptist Church. I love you all.
STAY STRONG AND COURAGEOUS IN THE LORD TODAY,
