“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.” 1 Peter 3:15
One day a year or two before I retired, I stopped in my manager’s office to talk with her about a work-related issue that was on her mind and I noticed she was humming “In Remembrance”. I immediately said, “I know that song!” There we were, two Christians together in a secular workplace, remembering the sacrifice of our Lord on the cross, as portrayed in the Lord’s Supper service. That was the beginning of us sharing with each other little tidbits of God’s grace, even though we weren’t supposed to talk about such things in the workplace. She was just as eager to share as I was about what Jesus meant to her and the special love she had for Christian music.
In our key verse for today, Peter reminds us of always being ready to give a reason for the hope that’s within us. We have every reason to do that, and sometimes opportunities come to us in most unexpected ways. My manager was of another denomination, but I was just as convinced that day that she knew Jesus as her Savior as much as if I had seen her walk down the aisle in my church to ask Jesus in her heart.
We never know when the Lord will give us a wonderful opportunity to share Jesus. We might discover that a workmate, schoolmate, waiter or waitress, neighbor or store employee already knows the Savior but until we start talking about Jesus we will never know for sure.
Don’t miss that chance to share your love of Jesus with someone today, tomorrow or whenever the Lord prompts you to do so. You might be just as surprised as I was when I heard my manager humming music about Jesus!
